The concept behind Border Disorder was to collectivise the teaching and tuition that we were already doing, whilst being able to self organise our labour (wages, hours etc) and design our own lesson content and courses. We also had an eye towards where we wanted the project to go in the future. Namely, financing the introduction of free tuition and assisting other struggling political projects through our paid courses and classes.
Our main focus is language and education classes that are critical of the global system of capital and inequality. We do this through the original and stimulating content of the lessons but also through challenging the dominance and hegemony of social institutions like schools and universities that more often than not perpetuate these same structures rather than openly struggling against them.
We particularly see the potential of languages and language-learning in combating and overcoming nationalism, fascism, borders and states because it entails engaging with other cultures, examining our own, as well as creating transnational networks of people who struggle and fight. We hope to push this further by including courses that are not just about learning languages, but also include cultural, social and political criticism.
At the moment the website is available in three languages (English, Spanish, and Italian). From the menu, choose which language to navigate in to see all our courses, lessons, and services.
