Learn English Online
Learn English individually or in a small group through personalised tuition or 10-week themed courses.
Options for Beginners
Ongoing 1-1 tuition
Continuous online classes that cover basic grammar and the fundamentals of the English language. It’s just you and one of us so the classes can cover whatever interests you. That could be pure grammar, exam preparation, a focus on work or industry, lessons on culture and politics, or games and music. It’s totally flexible, including the frequency and length of lessons.
Small group tuition
A little cheaper than the 1-1 tuition but otherwise the same. You can take the classes with a friend, flatmate, family member, or a few work colleagues.
Options for Intermediates
Ongoing tuition
Continuous online classes that cover intermediate grammar or areas of grammar that you have less confidence in. It’s just you and one of us, so the classes can cover whatever interests you. That could be pure grammar, exam preparation, a focus on work or industry, lessons on culture and politics, or games and music. It’s totally flexible, including the frequency and length of lessons.
10-week course Anthropology of Migration
The 10-week online classes are a hybrid of lecture and seminar. The focus of this course is the theme of migration and broadly contemporary migration related issues. We will critically engage with these issues by utilising anthropology, ethnography as well as discussion and your contributions. Although the focus is social theory, it is still a language course, so it will include lots of conversation practice and time dedicated to correcting your grammatical or stylistic mistakes. There is still plenty of flexibility, so we can turn up or down the intellectualism to suit your ability and/or specific interests.
10-week course Decolonial Photography
The 10-week online classes are a hybrid of lecture and seminar. This course is centred on deconstructing certain elements of the world of photography. It will consider primarily dynamics of power in photojournalism and travel photography from a perspective of antiracism and decolonialism. However, the course will also include technical and aesthetic elements as well as purely theoretical critical analysis. It will also prioritise and continue to focus on the English language in our theoretical discussion as well as any technical work. Moreover, there will be room for flexibility based on you own interests. For instance, we can prioritise the technical improvements of your work, or equally prioritise the theoretical and critical side of photography.
10-week course Social Movements
This course will cover key elements of theoretical discussion around social movements. It will not be limited to any particular geographical area, rather, it will use various examples and case studies from around the world to punctuate and illustrate areas of analysis and discussion. The perspective will be broadly one of social theory and political philosophy, rather than one of development, but that being said, students are obviously encouraged and welcomed to bring their own backgrounds and expertise to the course. As with all the courses, English will be a continuous feature of the classes, therefore, our objectives are not only theoretical discussion and development, but also linguistic improvement.
You can take all our courses and classes with a friend, flatmate, family member, or a few work colleagues.
This way we can lower the price-per-person a bit and you can help each other learn.
Options for Advanced
Ongoing tuition
Continuous online classes that only cover the grammar that seems weaker or lacking. Principally our classes will focus on providing stimuli to develop higher level language skills. It’s just you and one of us so the classes can cover whatever interests you. That could be, exam preparation, a focus on work or industry, or more academic discussion about politics, culture and society.
It will obviously be a higher level that the intermediate version with less attention to the English language and more focus on social theory and intellectual discussion. There is still plenty of flexibility, so we can turn up or down the intellectualism to suit your ability and/or specific interests.
10-week course Social Theory
The 10-week online classes are a hybrid of lecture and seminar. This course is dedicated to social theory and political philosophy. It intentionally does not contain any particular thematic focus because the course hopes to build upon your specific interests and engage with them through various philosophical angles and social theorists. The social theory is, broadly speaking, 20th century and European, however, ideally we will expand, challenge and build on this. You are not expected to be particularly well-versed in anything in particular, but some general knowledge and desire to read around the topics will help things run smoothly. Similar to the other advanced courses, English will be a much more minor focus and more attention will be placed on general expression.
10-week course Social Movements
This 10-week online course will cover various elements of theoretical discussion around the theme of social movements. It will not be limited to any particular geographical area because hopefully you will bring some specific interests of your own to consider alongside the various case studies and expertise of the person convening this course. We hope to keep this course global in the sense that we will use various analyses and discussions to talk widely around issues that face many diverse social movements. The perspective will be broadly one of social theory and political philosophy, rather than one of development, but that being said, students are obviously encouraged and welcomed to bring their own backgrounds and expertise. As with all the courses, English will be a feature of the classes, however, markedly less that the intermediate version of this course.
